Credit Union History
On December 9, 1954, a statement of incorporation and charter was issued and Oak Park Employees Credit Union was born. The credit union was open to all Village of Oak Park employees except Police and Fire as they had their own credit unions. During January 1955, the police asked to become part of the new credit union and the Oak Park Police Credit Union was dissolved. Later, the firefighters credit union was also dissolved and firefighters became eligible to join. During the 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s many other groups became eligible to join the credit union including Park District of Oak Park, Village of River Forest, Oak Park Township, Oak Park River Forest High School District 200, Oak Park School District 97, Oak Park Housing Center, Oak Park Area Arts Council, Forest Park Library, and West Suburban Consolidated Dispatch Center. In addition, the credit union committed to adding new services during this time. Many services were also added to benefit our members including Share Certificates, Share Draft (Checking) Accounts, Club Accounts, Insurance Services, Wire Transfer/Western Union Service, ATM/Debit Cards, and an automated telephone system. In order to better reflect the diversity of the credit union it changed its name to Alliance Financial Credit Union in 1999 and in 2001 after years of growth the credit union moved to independent facility. However, our goals remain the same as they did in 1954 – serving our members.
